The church was founded in 1855 in home groups and storefronts, it then grew into the current building in 1915. In 1924 the German Methodist Church merged with Fourth Avenue UMC. In 1964 an addition of an educational wing, offices, chapel and fellowship parlor completed the current structure. Today, the church has a goal of making it easy to find and experience God.
WE BELIEVE
We believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.
Pastor Amy Jo Bur began her service to Fourth Avenue United Methodist Church on Sunday, June 30, 2024. She has a Masters of Divinity from Chandler School of Theology at Emory University.
Pastor Amy Jo’s call to ministry came while serving as a volunteer in her congregation’s homeless shelter, realizing that she wanted to work with those (like the homeless) who felt they were pushed to the margins of the church.
Her passion in ministry is developing missional relationships between people and organizations. “It is a joy to welcome all people to the family of God.”
Fourth Avenue United Methodist church is sharing this appointment with Hope United Methodist Church in Faribault,Minnesota.
